4. What is a typical Notary Signing like?
- If in person, Signer will bring the document(s) to be signed (or upon request Notary will print and bring the document(s) to the signing). If online, Signer will send an electronic copy of the document to the Notary in advance of the scheduled signing.
- At the signing, and in order to verify the identity of the Signer, the Notary will request the Signer provide a form of government issued identification.
- If the document being signed is a Jurat and an oath is necessary, the Notary will administer an oath.
- The oath will be along the lines of "Do you solemnly swear and affirm that the statements in this document are true to the best of your knowledge and belief?".
- Then the Signer should respond with "Yes." or "I do."
- Next, the Signer will sign the document (if online, through e-signature) and pass the document over to the Notary.
- To conclude, the Notary will review for any missed signature blocks and will execute their signature and seal on the document.
- Voila! Document is now notarized and provided back to the Signer.
